Well, I guess we’re all back to work today. Hopefully we all have jobs that aren’t so painful to return to. While Franny spent the weekend working with children in the Poconos, I spent the weekend upstate with my family, trying to figure out how on Earth a kid can be as cute as my neice Kaydence, eating amazing Motherly dinners, and sitting by a nice backyard bonfire imbibing and reminiscing with the Fam. Oh yeah, and Friday, before I went upstate on Saturday, Paul and I went to the South Street Seaport to see Battles…with opener, Deerhunter. Battles was some pretty damn solid stuff, featuring the drummer for old 90s band, Helmet, and another member is Anthony Braxton’s son. It was kinda like modern King Crimson. I was a little surprised to see so many girls in attenedance since that kind of stuff is usually dude-fodder. Deerhunter seemed pretty run-of-the-mill indie rock to me, but certainly a good band. Well, here’s some things…
Apple to make a big announcement Wednesday about a new product. I say it’s the touchscreen iPod.
Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn to be re-released next Tuesday (9/11/07) by EMI for its 40th anniversary in a special limited edition 3-CD package designed by Storm Thorgerson. This package looks outstanding with both the stereo and mono mixes of the original and then a disc of bonus material including non-album singles and B-sides. But where are “Vegetable Man” and “Scream Thy Last Scream”?
R.I.P. John From Cincinnati. I kinda miss it.
“Does anyone remember laughter?”… Zep reunion rumours are wafting in from England.
Free album download of the week…Randy California’s (Spirit) Kapt. Kopter and the (Fabulous) Twirly Birds
Denis Leary hates Mel Gibson’s anti-semitism. Thanks Red David…this is hilarious!
That’s all I’ve got for the time being. I’ve gotta get back to work! What’d ya’ll do or discover over the weekend?

No “Scream Thy Last Scream” or “Vegetable Man”?? That’s heresy.
Man, I loves me some Syd Floyd.

We saw the Saw Doctors at the Kansas City Irish festival. I had never heard of these guys before, but they’ve got a decent following; I’d say half of the crowd was from out of town. We probably wouldn’t have gone, but some college friends of Shannon’s came down for the show from Chicago so we met up with them.
I dug it. They were pretty much a straight forward rock band with a little Irish flavor. It was fun, high-energy show. Here’s a good vid.
